Douglas Point
Douglas Point
"Douglas Point was the location of Col John Douglas's main plantation, Cool Spring Manor, He raised tobacco which he shipped to Europe from his docks. Today this area is a nature preserve and is currently the area of archaeological digs and research.:

"Site of the original plantation about 1660 across the Potomac River from Mount Vernon today This is an portion of the 1673 Augustine Herrman map of Virginia and Maryland. Born in Prague, Herrman was declared the first naturalized citizen of Maryland in part for drafting one of the earliest maps of the Chesapeake Bay. The map took just over a decade to produce and was submitted in draft form in 1670. Note the symbols used to denote English colonial settlements as well as Indian villages along the waterways."
